A NEARLY TANGIBLE FICTION

While the first exhibition suggested a game of absence and fragments, this second proposal, co-curated by Roxanne Arsenault and Joséphine Rivard, focuses instead on the effects of presence and corporeality. Une fiction presque tangible / A Nearly Tangible Fiction explores the representation of a painted, drawn, or sculpted self through mythologized personal stories.
Society, in this case our interpersonal relationships, is a stage for constantly orchestrated power dynamics, but more than anything, it’s a space of abundant abstraction, where artifice, desire and performance meet. This is how our true conceptions become blurred and intertwined with contemporary and synchronous myths to reveal new narrative approaches. As artists create their make-believe, corrected, or evolving worlds, they confirm the necessity of constructing their own affect.
Through personas and avatars, these artists reassess an idealized vision of daily life, defined not by social norms but according to their own conditions, speculating on what could be the richest and most complex version of each thing, each identity. And in this act of resisting standardized perfection, subjectivity wins and materializes itself in renewed paradigms.
