Muriel Ahmarani Jaouich is a Canadian artist of Armenian, Egyptian, and Lebanese descent whose painting practice explores genealogy, intergenerational trauma, and historical violence. Deeply rooted in her family’s histories of diaspora, immigration, and genocide, her work draws from oral histories, photographic archives, and inherited objects. She transforms these sources into narratives that weave memory and imagination, resonating with the complexities of ancestral grief. Her practice is grounded in a continual process of listening, with the belief that attending to ancestral grief can create pathways toward liberation for present and future generations.

Ahmarani Jaouich lives in Tiohtià:ke / Montreal, Quebec, on the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehá Nation. She is a recipient of the Lilian Vineberg Scholarship, Merit Scholarship, and Tom Hopkins Memorial Award. Her work has been exhibited at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Patel Brown, CLARK Center, articule, Printemps du MAC, and Arsenal New York. Her paintings are held in institutional and corporate collections, including the Doris McCarthy Gallery, Hydro-Québec, RBC, and Scotiabank, as well as in private collections in the United States, Italy, Czechia, Spain, and Canada. Ahmarani Jaouich is represented by Patel Brown.

Muriel Ahmarani Jaouich est une artiste canadienne d’origine arménienne, égyptienne et libanaise dont la pratique picturale explore la généalogie, les traumatismes intergénérationnels et la violence historique. Profondément ancrée dans les histoires de diaspora, d’immigration et de génocide de sa famille, sa pratique puise dans les récits oraux, les archives photographiques et les objets hérités. Ahmarani Jaouich transforme ces sources en récits où se mêlent mémoire et imagination, faisant résonner les complexités du deuil ancestral. Sa pratique repose sur un processus d’écoute continue, fondé sur la conviction que le fait de porter attention au deuil ancestral peut ouvrir des voies vers l’émancipation des générations présentes et futures.

Ahmarani Jaouich vit à Tiohtià:ke / Montréal, au Québec, sur le territoire traditionnel de la Nation Kanien’kehá. Elle est récipiendaire de la bourse Lilian Vineberg, de la Merit Scholarship et du Tom Hopkins Memorial Award. Son travail a été présenté au Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, chez Patel Brown, au CLARK Center, à articule, au Printemps du MAC et à Arsenal New York. Ses peintures font partie de collections institutionnelles et corporatives, notamment celles de la Doris McCarthy Gallery, d’Hydro-Québec, de RBC et de Scotiabank, ainsi que de collections privées aux États-Unis, en Italie, en Tchéquie, en Espagne et au Canada. Ahmarani Jaouich est représentée par Patel Brown.
